Deep in the gardens, sitting on a stone the size of a sedan I heard "If you see the Buddha on the path, kill him. If you see your teacher on the path kill him. If you see your parents on the path, kill them" These are the words of the buddhist Hundun.

This alludes to the current post. I've been thinking about the teachings of Eckhart Tolle and I've become very fond of some of his ideas. With that in mind, his teachings inevitably form a system. A system that I am wary of fully accepting or entertaining. Jiddu Krishnamurti's teachings have influenced me to work toward the break down of all systems, especially around those of your own ego.

What do you think?

I love art..

Ikebana - The Japanese Art of Flower Arrangement

This ancient art form is as meaningful and expressive as it is beautiful. I love the guiding philosophy behind the arrangement. Minimalism is an important principle in Ikebana, the pieces are meant to be simple but, to me, the more simplistic pieces are the most successful ones.

Only organic material is used in Ikebana and often the flowers themselves are not the most important aspects of the piece. Stems and leaves are used to emphasize line and form.

I'm very fond of the relationship that the Japanese have with nature. To me, Ikebana is an expression of that relationship through the minimalist perspective of the artist. That seems biased I know but I already said I prefer the most simplistic of Ikebana pieces...

Stoned enough to write this post..

Slightly Stoopid - Slightly Not Stoned Enough To Eat Breakfast Yet Stoopid

Aside from the title there is little to dislike. It shows the band getting back to its beach rock roots. To me the song that exemplifies this is "No Cocaine." Its a great song, unique sounds are blended with the usual dub sounds quite nicely..

"cuz we don't need no cocaine
we don't need no ecstasy
to ruin our brains
only one thing sets us free
frees our pain
talkin' 'bout the herb"

The album is good as a whole and I think  a lot of Slightly fans are happy with the return to the dub sound.

Thoughts on Nihilism

So there isn't objective morality huh? Well that's a good argument I think, I mean I'm willing to say that people are usually unable to be make objective decisions but what about universal truths? Murder seems like something everyone should agree on as a bad thing.. right?

Nietzsche wrote,
"...the pathos of 'in vain' is the nihilists' pathos — at the same time, as pathos, an inconsistency on the part of the nihilists."

It seems like nihilist views are contrary.. life is meaningless and we shouldn't even entertain a thought of concern or interest because its just fooling ourselves.. that in itself seems like a desire to explain life which some might mistake for  interest or concern..

I'm curious about contemporary nihilists and wonder if they stay true to their philosophy in their actual lives.. it seems to me that a true nihilist  would wish he had strangled himself in the womb.. its too cynical and apathetic for my taste.

First Post..

Let's get started..

Bahamadia - Kollage

I heard about this album not too long ago from a hip-hop head and I was pleasantly surprised..

I have to say Bahamadia is the best female mc that I've heard in a long time. Don't get tempted to compare her to Lauryn Hill or Mary J. Blige or even a 90's Missy Elliot because she in a completely different class of rhyming.

Despite the whole album being pretty solid one song, "Three the Hard Way", stands out to me. Maybe because of the other female mc on the track that also proves herself as a well developed artist.. its probably just the beat though.
